Umamusume cosplay races are coming to Latin America! After the much loved franchise made Asian fans take to the turf, Peruvian fans are following suit. The Jockey Club del Perú (Peruvian Jockey Club) is hosting Latin America’s first club-endorsed Umamusume cosplay race.
The race will take place this Friday, February 27, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the prestigious Hipódromo de Monterrico in Lima.
Coincidentally, Cygames, INC. (Umamusume‘s parent company) will sponsor the Gran Premio Latinoamericano this year. Billed as the best-known and most important G1 race in Latin America, the Gran Premio Latinoamericano rotates its turf yearly. Peru’s Hipódromo de Monterrico will host this year’s race on April 26
Friday’s Umamusume cosplay races will be open to the public and free, and promise a “unique experience where tradition and innovation meet on the track!” Similar races have taken place at the Indonesian Derby, Merdeka Cup of Malaysia, and the Queen’s and King’s Cups of Thailand.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby Franchise Details
Umamusume: Pretty Derby is a Cygames-created mobile game that features an anthropomorphized version of Japanese racehorses. The mobile game was launched in Japan in 2021, and its global release followed four years later in 2025. In the game, players assume the role of a racer’s trainer, guiding them through the first three years of their racing career.
Since its release, the Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise has received multiple anime and manga adaptations, additional games, and several collaborations. The Umamusume: Cinderella Gray TV anime was the most recent addition to the franchise. It’s available on several streaming sites and for free on the Its Anime Powered by REMOW YouTube Channel.
Cygames, INC. has used the IP’s profits to sponsor several international horse races like the Kentucky Oaks and the Grand Prix de Paris.
