Atsushi Ohkubo wrote and drew the Fire Force manga, which ran in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from September 2015 to February 2022. Kodansha also licensed it in English, and they describe the story:
The city of Tokyo is plagued by a deadly phenomenon: spontaneous human combustion! Luckily, a special team is there to quench the inferno: The Fire Force! The fire soldiers at Special Fire Cathedral 8 are about to get a unique addition. Enter Shinra, a boy who possesses the power to run at the speed of a rocket, leaving behind the famous “devil’s footprints” (and destroying his shoes in the process). Can Shinra and his colleagues discover the source of this strange epidemic before the city burns to ashes?
The anime confirmed an in-universe connection to Ohkubo’s Soul Eater in the final episodes. The Soul Eater manga was serialized by the Fire Force creator Atsushi Ohkubo, and it ran in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine from May 2004 to August 2013. The anime adaptation was animated by studio Bones, and had a total of 51 episodes. You can watch it on Crunchyroll.
