Honkai: Star Rail has announced that Version 4.2 “So Laughed the Masses” will launch on April 22, introducing new story content, playable characters, and a set of anniversary rewards for the game’s third year.
The update continues the Phantasmoon Games storyline, raising the stakes as players compete for a new ultimate reward tied to the Path of Elation.
In Version 4.2, the Phantasmoon Games escalate after it is announced that the victor will become the permanent Aeon of Elation. The Trailblazer becomes the focus of multiple factions while being drawn into a televised debate hosted by Fulwish, a media figure and leader of the Research Society of Happy Smiles, in Seafeld City.
The event sets up a confrontation built around influence, public opinion, and hidden schemes, with additional developments involving Silver Wolf and Pearl.
Two new 5-star characters are introduced:
- Silver Wolf LV.999 is an Imaginary character on the Path of Elation. Her kit uses “Hidden MMR” to activate a “Godmode Player” state that creates a “Reward stage,” generating items and buffs during combat.
- Evanescia is a Physical character on the Path of Elation who builds “Certified Banger” stacks to increase damage and trigger additional attacks while regenerating energy.
Version 4.2 will also introduce a new Path of Elation Trailblazer, equipped with a glow stick weapon that can transform into multiple forms during combat, enabling area attacks, combo strikes, and team support effects.
Warp events in Version 4.2 will include reruns for The Dahlia, Castorice, Firefly, Tribbie, Sunday, and Feixiao. Firefly, Huohuo, Seele, and Welt will receive buffs.
The update includes third anniversary rewards and events. The “Festive Gifts” event will return with a total of 20 pulls, and players will be able to claim 1,600 Stellar Jades on April 26 through a companion blessing. Huohuo and Robin will be added to the Stellar Convergence Store, and a free Golden Companion Spirit can be used to obtain a character. First-time top-up bonuses will also reset.
Additional content includes the “Cosmic Data Roaming” event, updates to Currency Wars, a Cosmicon mode expansion, and other activities such as “Express Renovation Escapade” and “Relic Recon.”
Anniversary events are also planned globally, including activities in Tokyo, Seoul, and Los Angeles. A concept trailer for a new animation project titled “Death in the Afternoon,” co-produced by HoYoverse and MAPPA, was shown alongside the announcement.
Honkai: Star Rail is available on PC, iOS, Android, Epic Games Store, and PlayStation 5, and has surpassed 150 million downloads worldwide.
