Sonny Boy anime, the newest original work from Madhouse studio, is scheduled to air on July 15th, 2021. Shingo Natsume (One Punch Man director) is directing the series, as well as writing the screenplay.
The story follows a group of middle school students who find themselves in another dimension. All of them soon realize they have gained mysterious powers, and chaos ensues as they start fighting for power and control. Some of them try to desperately find a way back to their world. But, something more sinister is at play, and they will soon be fighting for their lives.
Aoi Ichikawa is voicing Nagara, a third-year middle school student. Aoi Yuuki, Saori Onishi, and Chiaki Kobayashi are voicing three transfer students – Mizuho, Nozomi, and Asakaze respectively.
In addition to Shingo Natsume directing/writing the script for the Sonny Boy anime, Hisashi Eguchi (Perfect Blue) is doing the original character designs. Japanese band Ging Nang Boyz is performing the theme song.
Studio Madhouse (Death Note, No Game No Life) is animating Sonny Boy. Only last week they announced they will be animating season 4 of the popular Overlord series as well.
