Summer Time Rendering anime adaptation has a release date – 2022. Studio information isn’t available at the moment, but the official website for the anime revealed a new teaser visual.
The new visual shows the main characters, Shinpei and Ushio, standing side by side in the shallow sea. Behind them is the Hitogashima island, which is where the story takes place.
Even though the Summer Time Rendering anime was previously announced, the format (TV anime) wasn’t known until now.
Summer Time Rendering is based on a Sci-fi, suspense-mystery manga by Yasuki Tanaka. The manga was serialized in Shounen Jump+ online magazine from October 23, 2017, to February 1, 2021. The manga ended after 139 chapters and is now available in 13 volumes. Kohei Horikoshi, the author of the My Hero Academia series, was Tanaka’s assistant in the past. He spoke about learning a lot from his teacher, and also praised the Summer Time Rendering manga.
A live-action adaptation of the manga is also in the works.
The manga is available to read on MANGA Plus platform, which describes the plot as:
Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface, something strange is brewing on the island. What mysteries await him on this secluded summer island?
MANGA Plus is an online manga platform and mobile app by Shueisha. In addition to licensed English manga, it also offers series that are simulpubs (publishing in Japan at the same time).
