The Faraway Paladin (Saihate no Paladin) is getting an anime this October, and it’s a new fantasy isekai show set to debut in the same season as the story by which it was influenced, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. The author Kanata Yanagino mentioned it after a Twitter user called it “Mushoku but without ecchi”. Saying that Mushoku Tensei was 1st on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website at the time. They also confirmed that both the work and main character were influenced heavily by the series.
On the influence by Mushoku Tensei
In a reply in English, the author mentioned that MT made them think “I want to write a piece like this” and “Mushoku is so fun”, and later wrote the story. In regards to the phrase used: “Also, though I’m pretty sure this makes sense in English, the part “Mushoku but without ecchi” gives me a little giggle.“
The Faraway Paladin Anime
As mentioned at the beginning, The Faraway Paladin (Saihate no Paladin) is now also getting an anime. Although Mushoku Tensei will be airing its 2nd cour, it’s still interesting that both will be ongoing at the same time in October. They’re each different stories despite the influence, and I’ve seen several readers highly praise the magic system in Paladin (just started it myself so no opinion yet). The official synopsis goes:
In the ruined city of the dead far from human civilization lives a single human child named Will. He is raised by three undead: Blood the heroic skeleton warrior, Mary the ladylike mummy priestess, and Gus the crotchety ghost wizard. The three of them teach the boy what they know and pour their love into him. One day, the boy begins to wonder, “Who am I?” Will uncovers the mysteries of the undead hidden in this faraway land. He learns of the love and mercy of good gods, as well as the paranoia and madness of evil gods. And once he learns it all, the boy embarks on the path to becoming a Paladin. (Crunchyroll)
The studio in charge of the production is Children’s Playground Entertainment. You can also watch the trailer:
Fans of Mushoku Tensei will likely enjoy The Faraway Paladin as a story that was influenced by it. The already stacked Fall 2021 anime season could have some surprising new shows besides all the continuations!
In addition, “The Faraway Paladin” light novel is getting a hardcover release in March 2022!
