The House of the Lost on the Cape Novel

Misaki no Mayoiga (The House of the Lost on the Cape) is a film adaptation of the Japanese novel by Sachiko Kashiwaba. In September 2015, Kodansha released the novel in print, with Yukiko Saito providing the cover art. Moreover, the novel won the 2016 Noma Award for Juvenile Fiction.

The story revolves around “Mayoiga,” a traditional Japanese house from which one can view the sea and experience a sense of yearning and comfort. Yui, a 17-year-old girl, will try to find her place in the world and start a new life with people who have little in common with her. Her mysterious but warm communal life begins at an old folk house – the Mayoiga.
