A mysterious labyrinth

This newest update seems to be light on the story. Centering around a mysterious new labyrinth, the focus of Genshin’s new update seems to be themed around its title: “Into the Perilous Labyrinth of Fog”.

It seems that this labyrinth will feature heavily in an event dubbed “Labyrinth Warriors”. As always, the event is bringing a lot of rewards and who doesn’t love seeing primogems as event rewards? However, apart from that, players will also be getting a free copy of Xinyan from this event.

It seems that Genshin Impact’s lovable rockstar is finally getting some attention, and for those of you who are looking to get her or her constellations, make sure to check out the event.

Character Banners: Re-runs Galore!

It’s a rerun kind of update this time around! Fatui Harbinger Tartaglia and Wangsheng Funeral Parlor director Hu Tao will be the 5-star characters getting banners for Genshin Impact’s 2.2 update. This is Childe’s second re-run banner.

In addition to that, a new 4-star character will be playable in this new update. Thoma, the Kamisato Clan’s housekeeper, will make his debut as a playable character on the Hu Tao banner.

A feisty fiery personality, Thoma will be a polearm user imbued with a Pyro vision. His kit was showcased in the live stream as well, and it seems to be centered around his shielding capabilities as a character. Dubbed the “Protector From Afar”, he seems to be the type of character that can protect your party, while supporting them at the same time. Thoma also has the benefit of being voiced by talents such as Christian Banas (English VA) and Masakazu Morita (Japanese VA).

In addition to the character banners, some new weapons will be coming out in the update as well. Alongside some new 4-star weapons, the 5-Star weapon, Polar Star, will be introduced to the game! This appears to be a bow designed specifically for Childe. Will it be his new best-in-slot weapon? We’ll have to see when the update drops!

These new weapons will be available in the update too!

Inazuma’s newest island!

Genshin Impact players will also have a new island to look forward to for the 2.2 update. Tsurumi Island will be a new area that players can jump into once the update drops. This area was labeled a mysterious island, one that outsiders know very little about.

The island’s atmosphere certainly captures this concept well. From the shots of the island shown in the live stream, the area seems to be encased in a thick, dark fog. In fact, darkness seems to permeate across the land. Who knows what kind of dangers lie in Tsurumi Island?

Tsurumi Island is a dark and mysterious land players will be able to jump into soon!

Well, it turns out that we do know! Genshin Impact’s 2.2 live stream also showcased some of the monsters that would come with this island. Whelps and Rifthounds will be new foes that players will have to deal with in the 2.2 update. These monsters are particularly formidable, as they can apply an effect known as “corrosion”. This will cause all members of one’s party to take damage over time for a specific period of time.

Yikes! As if it wasn’t enough to have Corrosion on an entire Spiral Abyss floor. Get your healers ready, people, as it might be the only way to stay alive on Tsumuri Island.

So many events!

There appears to be a ton of events coming to this update. For one, Hangout Events will be making a comeback. Players will get to hang out with Thoma and Sayu this time around. These charming characters have always looked like a blast to hang out with, and now, players will actually get the chance to. Who knows what kind of crazy shenanigans you’ll get up to with these two?

Players will soon get to hang out with Thoma and Sayu!

Furthermore, the fun around Teyvat never ends. Players will have to fight a regenerating Ruin Grader in the Shadow of the Ancients event. The Dreams of Bloom event will allow you to collect flowers and share these flowers with friends. The Tuned to the World’s Sounds event also brings back Genshin Impact’s musical rhythm game. This time, players will get to play with fan-favorite characters to create beautiful melodies. Finally, Ley Line Overflow will also be making a comeback in the update.

A Few Fun Additions

Beyond those, a few fun additions are coming to Genshin Impact too. A new Japanese-themed realm layout will be added for the Serenitea Pot. For those of you out there who’ve always wanted to design your own Japanese-style home in-game, now’s your time. A ton of new Inazuman furnishing blueprints will also be introduced as well and players will be able to purchase these from Tubby or acquire them from World Quests.

Finally, it was also revealed that Genshin Impact would be collaborating with Razer to provide a number of co-branded products. Have you ever wanted to have some Paimon-themed gaming merch? Well, you’re in luck! The live stream showed a number of products that players will be able to order soon.

Genshin Impact’s 2.2 Livestream

That’s about all you need to know regarding what was shown on Genshin Impact’s 2.2 live stream! It feels a bit dry this time around, with less focus on the story and more on smaller events. However, the update still looks like it’s going to be a ton of fun and there’s still a lot for players to look forward to once the update drops. What are you most looking forward to in the 2.2 update?
