The latest ONE PIECE chapter had a color spread featuring some of the best first mates from the series, and the official twitter shared the drawing process by Eiichiro Oda. While they aren’t all technically ‘first mates’, they are the number 2s of their respective organizations/pirate crews, and you can see the video below:

- Benn Beckman – Red Hair Pirates
- King – Beast Pirates
- Katakuri Charlotte – Big Mom Pirates

- Marco Phoenix – Whitebeard Pirates

- Shiryu – Blackbeard Pirates
- Sabo – Revolutionary Army

We’ve seen the power of most of the above, though some first mates like Benn Beckman, Bepo, King (in the anime) and Shiryu are yet to get their spotlight. In addition about Shiryu, he used to command the 2nd ship in the Blackbeard Pirates. However, after Burgess, the commander of the 1st ship, failed to get Ace’s fruit, it seems like Shiryu was promoted to the first mate position.
