Urusei Yatsura is getting a new anime adaptation in 2022. Rumiko Takahashi’s first manga already had an anime adaptation that ran from 1981 to 1986, so this new announcement marks its return to TV for the first time in over 35 years. David Production is animating the new 4-cour adaptation. Teaser visual is now available:
The main cast of the series includes Hiroshi Kamiya (Ataru Moroboshi) and Sumire Uesaka (Lum). Both can be heard in the teaser PV:
Hideya Takahashi (Platinum End, Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure: Golden Wind), and Yasuhiro Kimura (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure: Golden Wind) are directing the anime. Yuuko Kakihara (Koikimo) will handle the series composition, while Naoyuki Asano (Keep Your Hands Off Keizouken) is working on the character designs.
Urusei Yatsura
Urusei Yatsura is a Japanese romantic comedy series by Rumiko Takahashi (InuYasha). Shogakukan serialized it from September 1978 until February 1987 and it currently has over 35 million copies in circulation. The first anime adaptation of the series aired from October 1981 until March 1986 and had a total of 195 episodes, with Mamoru Oshii (Angel’s Egg) and Kazuo Yamazaki (A Wind Named Amnesia) as the directors. The show also had 6 anime films and 13 OVAs.
The manga also has 12 volumes available in English, through Viz Media license. The 13th is available for pre-order.
