Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie Episode 1 - Let the Girlfriend Lead

Episode 1 of the rom-com series Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie is finally here and the title truly lives up to its meaning. The main heroine Shikimori isn’t just a cutie indeed – she’s actually cool. Not to exaggerate, but Shikimori’s the complete package anyone could ever dream of. Her character is perfectly balanced, but more importantly, she genuinely shows how much she loves her partner.

The series had a good start but the anime did not follow the flow of the manga. It’s quite unnoticeable for those who haven’t read the manga and I’d actually say that this order of events is actually better. A few spoilers ahead but for those who are curious about the pacing of the anime – the 1st episode followed chapters 1-3 however, the bowling scene can be found in chapter 18. Although the gap between the chapters is big the anime was able to smoothly transition and these changes were barely noticeable.

While Shikimori’s indeed cute, her boyfriend Izumi is quite a clumsy but kind-hearted man. You could say that Izumi has the worst luck as if he’s some kind of a magnet of misfortune. But despite being so unlucky, Izumi just won the jackpot prize for being Shikimori’s partner. I’d say that this would be the most wholesome part of the series – having someone to protect you by your side. What makes Shikimori even more loveable is that she’s always there to save Izumi from his misfortunes.

Having such good friends along with Shikimori by his side, I’m quite happy for, but also jealous of Izumi. Nonetheless, the fact that Izumi’s able to smile every day despite being unlucky is what makes him a perfect partner for the cool main heroine Shikimori. This is just the start of a wholesome rom-com this season so buckle up and fall in love with Shikimori as there are more stunningly heartwarming moments to come.
