Police in a Pod Manga Goes on Hiatus

The Police in a Pod manga is going on a hiatus starting June 16 this year, as revealed by the mangaka Miko Yasu during an interview with Kodansha’s Comic Days blog. The interview, hosted by Japanese comedian Kendo Kobayashi, reveals that the mangaka planned the hiatus in order to work on ‘new material’.

During the interview, Yasu noted that the ‘new material’ she is working on would revolve around a male lead who has a sword and is set in an unspecified historical period in Japan. She hopes that the new series will be serialized on the seinen manga magazine Morning, just like Police in a Pod.

The Police in a Pod manga started serializing on Morning in 2017 and currently has 20 volumes. It recently won at the Kodansha’s 46th Manga Awards in the general manga category. A television series adaptation began airing from July 2021 to September 2021 on Nippon TV. An anime series animated by studio Madhouse aired from January to March 2022.

The manga’s English version is available digitally on Kodansha USA, which describes it as follows:
Female police officer Kawai had enough of a career she wasn’t even that into and was about to hand in her registration, when the unthinkable happened—she met the new, female director of her station! And after spending a little time with this gorgeous role model, Kawai realizes that maybe she isn’t quite done being an officer after all.
