Voice actor Billy Kametz passed away on Thursday, June 9 at the age of 35, less than 2 months after his cancer diagnosis was made public. The voice actor shared a video message on April 26 in which he shared the news about his diagnosis and asked fans to support his replacements while he takes a break from work to recover. The news was shared by Kametz’s agency, Point of Contact.
Erika Harlacher was among voice actors expressing their condolences on Twitter. She shared a link to a GoFundMe page that was set up to help the family with funeral costs:
Billy Kametz was an American voice actor, born on March 22 in 1987. He will be remembered among anime dub watchers for voicing Naofumi Iwatani from The Rising of the Shield Hero, Josuke Higashikata from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, and Shinei Nouzen from 86: Eighty-Six, among others. His most recent roles included Nicolo (Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2) and Marcus Annius Verus in Netflix’s Thermae Romae Novae. During his prolific career, Kametz also voiced characters in a number of video games. He voiced Rui from Demon Slayer in both the anime and the Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles game, but also Baelo in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: War of the Visions and Takuto Maruki in Persona 5 Royal.
Billy’s fans and friendly previously set up a GoFundMe to help with his hospital costs. Donations can now be made in Billy’s name for colon cancer research at Colon Cancer Nonprofit.
