Spy x Family Episode 10 - Not Your Ordinary Dodgeball

Spy x Family episode 10 definitely reminded me of scenes from Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and Hunter X Hunter. The shounen power was so strong, and it’s even funnier when you think about how it’s supposed to be a child’s P.E. class! I understand that it’s natural to get competitive, especially when a juicy rumor says that the MVP would receive a stella star. (Instant throwback to my own wild P.E. experiences for exam exceptions.) The stella star is Anya’s goal for Operation Strix, just like how Damian also wants it for getting his Father’s attention. It’s sad on Damian’s part and this shows a parallel between him and Anya. Like all shounen fights, this is their motivation and the very reason why the dodgeball game becomes more dramatic and intense than it should be, with twists and turns and killer moves — spectacularly hilarious!

It’s nice how Spy x Family episode 10 shows us more about the other characters, especially right after two episodes of Twilight and the other adults. The fact that the episode begins with Mr. Henderson’s “elegant” morning routine, something which I would never have imagined but found very entertaining, just shows the level he strives for his students to be at.

And then there’s Damian and his henchmen, who are hands-down a cute bunch of kids. The two friends have that “bros for life” energy. The same goes for Becky who is just as protective and fearless in backing up Anya. These children are so adorable, and they really made this dodgeball game very epic. Very elegant.

I don’t know which one is more ridiculous — Yor’s insane throwing strength or Bill Watkin’s physique. Nevertheless, both of them definitely made the episode very interesting. To be honest, I’m not sure what to feel about Spy x Family episode 10, but I laughed my heart out anyway. The creativity of this episode is much like a child’s imagination. It’s nostalgic, cute, and very enjoyable. With all the comedy we’ve been having, I’m excited to see a serious spy/assassin/telepath episode soon.

The next episode will air on Saturday, June 25, at 23:00 JST. Watch it on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Muse Asia, and Bilibili. Don’t forget to vote in our weekly polls!
