Dead Mount Death Play Gets Anime, First Trailer Released

Ryogo Narita’s Dead Mount Death Play is getting an anime adaptation as announced with a visual and the first trailer. The cast members are also revealed. Studio GEEKTOYS is animating it and the premiere date is set for April 2023.

Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere‘s director Manabu Ono is directing the anime adaptation and he is also in charge of the series composition. Kingdom Season 3 and 4’s character designer Hisashi Abe is taking care of the character design, while Manabu Ono, Yukie Sugawara (series composition in Overlord), and Yoriko Tomita (series composition and script in My Dress-Up Darling) are writing the script.

Yuki Sakakihara, who played Nanaki Ralei in The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt, is voicing Polka Shinoyama. Inori Minase, best known for her role as Rem in Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, is acting as Misaki Sasamiya. Yuma Uchida who voiced Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen is playing the role of Takumi Kuruya.

Dead Mount Death Play Anime First Trailer

Ryogo Narita, known for Durarara, is writing the Dead Mount Death Play manga with art by Shinta Fujimoto in Square Enix’s bimonthly magazine Young Gangan since October 2017. The series released the first compiled volume in April 2018 and the latest, tenth volume on November 25, 2022.

Yen Press licensed the manga for English releases and published the eight volume in September 2022. The official website describes the plot of the first volume as:
It’s a showdown for the ages as the legendary hero takes on the corpse god necromancer, but when the dust settles, something isn’t quite right… In the final moments of their epic confrontation, the corpse god’s final gambit shot was wholly unexpected — reincarnation magic! Across space and time, a boy named Polka Shinoyama awakens feeling…not quite himself…… Who could’ve expected that the climactic battle between good and evil would turn out like this??
