Uta Performs New Genesis in NHK’s Kohaku Uta Gassen, Thanks Fans

Uta from One Piece Film Red, the latest anime film from the One Piece series, performed the film’s theme song “New Genesis” in NHK’s music program Kohaku Uta Gassen on Saturday. This was the first time that an anime character appeared in the program. After her live, the official Twitter account of the program released an illustration of Uta with the Straw Hat Pirates with a caption: “Uta, thank you for the fantastic live!

Kaori Nazuka voiced the character in the film and Ado was in charge of Uta’s singing voice. Ado updated her Twitter page with a tweet on Uta’s performance: “Uta, it was such a fantastic live!” Right after the performance, Uta posted a video message in which she describes the live performance: “A lot of people sang the song together with me at the venue and it felt like we were one.” You can check her full message on One Piece’s official YouTube channel below:

One Piece Film Red grossed over ¥2.25 billion (~$17 million) with 1.57 million attendees in the opening weekend in Japan, which made the biggest opening-weekend numbers when it comes to both the audience and earnings among films of 2022. It’s also the best-performing film in One Piece‘s history. The film released a commemorative illustration by the manga’s author Eiichiro Oda for the ¥18 billion (~$137 million) milestone on November 7. It’s screened worldwide and hit theaters in the US in early November. Box Office Mojo reported that the film grossed $9,475,251 in the opening weekend (November 4-6) in the country.
