Komada – A Whisky Family, a new original work from P.A. Works studio, is coming in November of this year, as announced earlier with a short trailer and visual. The film will be screened at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival as part of the Contrechamp category.
The cast for Komada – A Whisky Family anime film includes Saori Hayami (Spy x Family, Urusei Yatsura, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -Ultra Romantic-) as Rui Komada, Kensho Ono (Call of the Night, Tribe Nine, Spy x Family) as Kotaro Takahashi, Maaya Uchida (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, The Promised Neverland) as Tomoko Kawabata, and Yoshimasa Hosoya (Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Bungo Stray Dogs) as Yasumoto. Masayuki Yoshihara is directing the series, Yukito on the screenplay, Tomomi Takada on the original character designs, and Kousuke Kawazura as the chief animation director.
I hope that this work will provide clues to finding what you really love through the “way of facing work” of the two main characters: Rui, who takes years to see the results of her work and does her best to make whiskey that will be handed down to the next generation, and Kotaro, who envies those who are moving toward their goals but cannot find what he should be doing.
Comment from Director Masayuki Yoshihara
The film is set in a Japanese whiskey distillery. Young Rui Komada is leading the business following the death of her father. She aims to reforge the broken family bonds and rebuild the ailing whiskey business.
The film is part of P.A. Work’s growing number of original anime works which include Sirius the Jaeger (2018), Iroduku: The World in Colors (2018), Fairy Gone (2019), Appare-Ranman! (2020), The Aquatope on White Sand (2021), Akiba Maid War (2022), and Buddy Daddies (2023).
