Ani-One Asia Removes Chainsmoker Cat from Their YouTube Channel

Yaniko’s troubles continue. Ani-One Asia announced that it will remove Chainsmoker Cat from its YouTube channel. The company mentioned that the removal was due to “local government regulations in local markets” and apologized for any inconvenience. Ani-One’s removal of Yani Neko comes days after the Anime Crazy streaming service pulled the anime from its Hong Kong site. Anime Crazy mentioned that Hong Kong’s Department of Health found Chainsmoker Cat to be in contravention of sections 13B and 14 of the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance.

Ani-One Asia did not specify which regulations led to the anime’s removal. However, countries like the Philippines have several laws against the promotion of tobacco products, especially on domestic TV, radio, and internet communications. Thailand also prohibits the promotion of tobacco products but does allow the “unpaid depiction of tobacco use/products in TV, film, or other media.”

Chainsmoker Cat Details

The Chainsmoker Cat anime adapts the manga by NyanNyanFactory. Yani Neko follows Yaniko, a demi-human catgirl with a severe nicotine addiction. The show frequently depicts Yaniko going to extreme (comedic) lengths to feed her addiction. Several of her friends and neighbors also regularly smoke, drink, and consume illicit drugs.

Weekly Young Magazine (Kodansha) has serialized the manga since its February 2023 debut. Kodansha compiled its chapters into 13 tankobon volumes. Seven Seas Entertainment began releasing the English version in February 2025. Bibury Animation Studios animates the series. Taku Kimura directs Chainsmoker Cat. The anime’s voice cast includes:
