At Anime NYC, distributor AnimEigo confirmed it has secured the home media rights to A Time Slip of 10,000 Years: Prime Rose. The fantasy adventure film, adapted from a manga by Osamu Tezuka, will be released as an HD Blu-ray edition in 2026. AnimEigo and its parent company MediaOCD acquired the license from SkySet Entertainment.
Osamu Tezuka, regarded as the “Godfather of Manga,” is credited with reshaping Japanese comics and animation through innovative storytelling and character work. Over his career, he created more than 700 manga titles and over 500 episodes of anime, including influential series such as Astro Boy, Princess Knight, and Kimba the White Lion.
Story and Setting
The synopsis of Prime Rose: A powerful entity known as Death Mask hurls Kujukuri City, Japan, and Dallas, Texas 10,000 years into the future, reshaping them into a ruthless battleground where only the strongest survive. Determined to shatter this tyrant’s hold on time itself, Gai Tanbara ventures into the dystopian future. Along the way, he meets Emiya, a fierce warrior fighting to reclaim her city from the darkness. Together, they confront the horrors of a shattered world and the sinister forces threatening the fate of humanity!.
Production
The film first aired in 1983 as part of Nippon Television’s annual charity event 24-Hour Television: Love Saves the Earth. Its heroine, Prime Rose (also known as Emiya Tachi), went on to appear in other Tezuka works and later featured in the video game Astro Boy: Omega Factor as the daughter of Acetylene Lamp and girlfriend of Daichi Tokugawa.
The manga version of Prime Rose ran in Weekly Shonen Champion from July 1982 through June 1983. Because the manga was still ongoing when the anime project began, the film was written with an original storyline. Tezuka developed the adaptation during a period when fantasy-adventure manga with young heroines were popular, though he resisted pressure from fans to emphasize fan service. The final adaptation portrayed Prime Rose in line with his original vision.
