The TV anime adaptation of the first novel in Hajime Kamoshida’s Rascal Does Not Dream series, titled Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai aired as part of the 2018 Fall anime season. Its follow-up movies, Rascal Does Not Dream of Dreaming Girl, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, and Rascal Does Not Dream of Knapsack Kid, saw their theatrical releases in 2019 and 2023, respectively. All titles were animated by Cloverworks and produced by Aniplex and Kodokawa.
One’s teenage and young adult years are most often turbulent times. Figuring out your place in the world and how to interact with the people around you is easier said than done. And at that age, it’s easy to make mistakes. The consequences of which range from embarrassing to life-altering. But what if it were somehow worse? What if you had to live with life-threatening injuries and debilitating mental trauma from the stress that life puts you through?
To Sakuta Azusagawa and the people around him, that theoretical question is a daily struggle. When their worries and stresses surpass what’s normal and compound, Sakuta and those around him find themselves dealing with a mythical disease known as Adolescence Syndrome, which causes everything from erasing someone from memory to grievous wounds, split personalities, and age regression. But how does one fight something intangible? How can you confront something that runs between the real and the esoteric? For the Rascal Does Not Dream cast, that’s their most pressing question.
If you aren’t caught up with the series or just want to check it out, make sure to check out the June Bride Marathon, where AniPlus will air all Rascal Does Not Dream titles.
