Anpanman debuted in 1973 as a children’s picture book by Takashi Yanase, later growing into one of Japan’s most beloved franchises. It has the Soreike! Anpanman anime by TMS Entertainment (Rent a Girlfriend, SAKAMOTO DAYS), which has been airing since 1988 and has over 1600 episodes. The franchise is centered around the character Anpanman, a superhero with a head made of anpan (a sweet bread filled with red bean paste). He was created by Uncle Jam, a kind baker, and fights against Baikinman, a germ-themed antagonist.
