Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King Tops Netflix Charts With 6.4 Million Views in Two Days

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King reached 6.4 million views in its first two days of release on Netflix. The movie climbed to the number two global spot for non-English movies for the week of June 12 – 18 after being released on June 16.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King was originally set to release on March 31 but was ultimately delayed due to production issues caused by COVID-19. Alongside Tanemura, Ai Orii and Johnny Onda are handling the screenplay for the film. Itsuko Takeda is in charge of the character designs for the film and Minako Seki the music. Character trailers for Asta and Yuno were released ahead of the movie’s release.

Black Clover Manga

Written and illustrated by Yuki Tabata, Black Clover first began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine back in 2015 and has since released a total of 34 volumes with Volume 35 on the way. VIZ Media picked up the English license for the series and has published the first 32 volumes with Volume 33 slated to release on November 7. 

The Black Clover manga currently has over 19 million copies in circulation as of June 2023.

VIZ Media describes the plot of Black Clover as such:
Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. Only one problem—he can’t use any magic! Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Can someone who can’t use magic really become the Wizard King? One thing’s for sure—Asta will never give up!

The Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is currently available to watch on Netflix in both subbed and English dub. The film was also released in theaters across Japan on June 16, 2023.
