The previously announced BRZRKR anime adaptation will begin production in October 2024, according to Mattson Tomlin. He was announced as the showrunner for the anime series, having previously written the script for BRZRKR’s live-action film adaptation in 2021. These new details were revealed during San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

Details about the BRZRKR anime were announced in July 2022, and it is based on an American comic created and co-written by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt. Production I.G. will be animating the series, which will have two seasons and stream on Netflix. Reeves will also reprise his role as ‘B,’ which he also did in the series’ live-action adaptation.

It isn’t clear yet who will be directing the series, Reeves previously shared with Collider in 2022 that he is “considering” to direct the anime series, as long as he liked the script.

“I know how it’s a lot of work, but the film that I directed, Man of Tai Chi , was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn’t want to hand it over. I was like, oh, okay. I have to direct this. I’m not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I’m also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it.”

BRZRKR – Comic Promotional Trailer

BRZRKR was launched on March 3, 2021, by Boom! Studios. The comic was funded through a Kickstarter project, which eventually raised around US$1.45m. It has sold over 650,000 copies of the first issue.

Boom! Studios describes the plot as:
A WAR WITH NO END. The man known only as B. is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence…even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B. will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.
