Burn the Witch Prequel Anime Premieres Today, Gets Final Countdown Visual and Video

BURN THE WITCH prequel anime titled BURN THE WITCH #0.8 has revealed the final countdown visual ahead of today’s worldwide premiere (December 29), as well as a quick recap video of the first anime. Studio Colorido previously revealed several illustrations prior to the premiere on their X profile, and you can see the final one below.

In addition, they revealed a special recap video where Noel and Ninny try to recap the previous anime in 22.1 seconds. Check that out below.

The new anime will adapt the prequel one-shot manga chapter 0.8. titled “Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover,” which was published before the 4 chapters and later compiled with them in the first volume. It’s another work from the BLEACH creator Tite Kubo, and it set in the same universe. Studio Colorido (Team Yamahitsuji) will be animating, with Tatsuro Kawano also returning to direct.

The first anime premiered as a movie that was split into 3 episodes on October 2, 2020. They were distributed on Amazon Prime Video and Hikari TV in Japan, and worldwide on Crunchyroll (some countries excluded). It ended with the ‘Soul Society West Branch’ reveal, which confirmed that Noel and Ninny are living in the same universe as Ichigo and co. NiL is again performing the theme song for the new anime titled “PROVE.”

The voice cast for the anime includes:

The staff for BURN THE WITCH season 1 included:

  • Tatsuro Kawano as the director
  • Chika Suzumura as the script writer and supervisor
  • Natsuki Yamada as the character designer and animation director
  • Keiji Inai as the music composer

BURN THE WITCH was first published as a one-shot manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2018. It began weekly serialization on August 24, and ran for 4 chapters. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, and they describe the story:
Historically 72% of all the deaths in London are related to dragons, fantastical beings invisible to the majority of the people. While unknown to most, some people have been standing up to these dragons. Only inhabitants of Reverse London who live in the hidden “reverse” side of London can see the dragons. The protagonists of the story are witch duo Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole. They are protection agents for Wing Bind. Their mission is to protect and manage the dragons within London on behalf of the people.
