- Happy Definitive Ending
There’s nothing that anyone wants more than a happy and definitive ending, especially if you’re faced with serious health issues. The author wasn’t sure if he could finish the remaining two volumes and had to abandon many things for the anime’s final season, like Romalia’s diabolical pursuit for the Holy Land, the extended adventures in the Elves land, and the lore behind Founder Brimir and his familiar Sasha. Instead, it prioritized Henrietta’s, Tabitha’s, and Tiffania’s love stories, resolving King Joseph and Sheffield’s chaos, and delivering the ultimate development for Louise and Saito.
Those two have shown immense maturity and realized their lives are nothing without each other. Louise already gave up her status to save Tabitha in Season 3 and Volume 10, and in Volume 17, admitting to Éléonore (her second oldest sister) that she was willing to give up the La Vallière name again, to be with Saito forever. She struggled to be honest and worry-free, facing constant insecurities with the other girls and her noble status. But she finally transforms from this isolated and enraged tsundere into the most beloved heroine, who isn’t embarrassed anymore about her feelings for her lifelong partner.
Saito endured a lot of beatings and self-realizations about his role, whether it was as Gandálfr or his own choices as Hiraga Saito. Although he had obligations to other women like Queen Henrietta, as a knight or as Tiffania’s familiar, it never stopped him from returning to Louise’s side. The times they’ve danced or separated were their powerful moments, finally connecting them and breaking the walls between master and servant. They finally understood one another and knew nothing can ever break their bond.
As the wedding took place, it was everything anyone can wish for. ICHIKO’s heart-felt instrumental “I Say Yes” returned as their triumphant oath, after being played in the devastating battle of 70,000 soldiers in season 2. The song created a full circle from a depressing memorial to an ever-lasting promise, and again I have to thank Yamaguchi-sensei and ICHIKO for this legendary scene. I’m certain that most anime fans would love to reach Louise and Saito’s level of commitment and trust, and have their own weddings with ICHIKO’s song.
YouTube singer and voice actress, AmaLee (LeeandLie) captured those exact feelings in her beautifully voiced wedding cover. Please check out the video and lyrics below to see why it continues to be the definitive song in The Familiar of Zero, and why so many fans have considered using it for their own weddings.
[Chorus – Opening Lines]
“I Say Yes, I swear I will always be forever here
No matter what is thrown away, I’m here to stay
I promise you can count on me”[Pre-Chorus]
“Stay with me today, I will protect you always”[Chorus – Conclusion]
“We may be from different lands
But in your hands, I swear we’re meant to be”Cited from AmaLee’s Youtube Video
