The official website of Date a Live V (Season 5) announced that the series will premiere on April 10. You can also check out the official announcement on their X account.
April 10 is a memorable day for the franchise and Date a Live fans because it is the day where the story started in episode 1 of the anime, the manga, and of course, the original light novel. The setting of the series began on April 1, wherein Shido met Tohka, which is also the reason he named her “Tohka”. In kanji, the name is written as “十香”, which means the 10th day of the month. Day in kanji is written as “日”, but it was replaced by the homonymous character, “香” in Tohka’s name, which means fragrance since it was spring when they met.
Jun Nakagawa is directing the Date a Live V series at studio GEEKTOYS. The same staff also worked in Date a Live IV, in 2022, and Date a Bullet, in 2020. Season 1 premiered in 2013 under studio AIC+, and it was followed by the second season by Production IMS in 2014. A movie titled Date a Live: Mayuri Judgment aired in 2015. The franchise returned in 2019 with J.C. Staff animating season 3. Keitaro Motonaga directed all the installments of the franchise from season 1 up to season 3.
Date a Live was originally a light novel series by Koshi Tachibana. Fujimi Shobo serialized it with Tsunako’s illustrations from 2011 to 2020, and it has a total of 22 volumes available. Yen Press licensed the original light novel in English and describes the plot as:
April 10. The first day of school. Shido Itsuka is rudely awoken by his personal alarm clock—his little sister. It’s shaping up to be another typical day…well, as typical as it gets on a planet plagued by massive spatial quakes. Little does Shido know, however, his life is about to take a sudden turn when he encounters the source of this destructive phenomenon—a girl his age, apparently known as a Spirit. Turns out, there are only two ways he can stop her from unleashing hell on the world: Eliminate her by force or placate her…by taking her out on a date and making her fall in love with him!
