Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has broken the U.S. box office opening day and opening weekend records for an anime, grossing $33.0 million over Friday’s opening (includes Thursday’s previews at $11 million). It beats out Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero‘s $10.9 million single-day debut and Pokémon: The First Movie‘s $31.0 million weekend set back in 1999 (unadjusted for inflation, around $60 million adjusted). Infinity Castle still has Saturday and Sunday’s numbers to come through, set to extend its weekend record further.
