The Sankei Shimbun reports that Shim Jun-woo, a 24-year-old male, was arrested on suspicion of filming the anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle in secret and other charges last month. The film was released in Japan on July 18.

Shim denies filming the movie. He was arrested on July 30 on suspicion of theft after allegedly using someone else’s card to purchase 200 anime Blu-ray discs worth 1.3 million yen (~$8.8k). Upon confiscating his phone, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Otsuka Police Station says it found footage of the entire 2-hour and 35-minute Demon Slayer film on his smartphone, recorded on its release day, which led to his re-arrest.
The arrest follows two legal notices from the Infinity Castle anime production committee. First, following a theater-exclusive trailer leak in May, and another on July 25, when the anime film’s footage was circulating online. The film is currently the 3rd highest-grossing Japanese film of all time at the domestic box office, passing Your Name on August 18. Its international theatrical release, described as being on an “unprecedented” scale by Crunchyroll, has already seen Fandango’s pre-sale record for an anime movie shattered within 24 hours.

As the Demon Slayer Corps members and Hashira engaged in a group strength training program, the Hashira Training, in preparation for the forthcoming battle against the demons, Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the Ubuyashiki Mansion. With the head of the Demon Corps in danger, Tanjiro and the Hashira rush to the headquarters but are plunged into a deep descent to a mysterious space by the hands of Muzan Kibutsuji.
The destination of where Tanjiro and Demon Slayer Corps have fallen is the demons’ stronghold – the Infinity Castle.
And so, the battleground is set as the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the Demons ignites.
