Netflix has revealed the official trailer for their Devil May Cry animated series, which is coming to the platform on April 3. This follows yesterday’s key visual, when they teased today’s reveal. The project was announced in September 2023 as “an anime series from Capcom, Studio Mir & Adi Shankar,” with Johnny Yong Bosch voicing Dante. Netflix describes the story:
In this animated adaptation of the popular Capcom game and from the vision of Adi Shankar, sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
The theme song for the anime will be “Rollin” by Limp Bizkit, while you can check out the new trailer below. It also features the appearance of Dante’s older brother, Virgil, with the song “Last Resort” by Papa Roach.
Devil May Cry is a popular action-adventure and hack-and-slash game franchise created by Hideki Kamiya and developed primarily by Capcom. The series follows Dante, a demon hunter with supernatural abilities, as he battles demons that threaten humanity. Known for its combat, fast-paced action, and combo mechanics, Devil May Cry is regarded as one of Capcom’s most iconic franchises.
The series originally debuted in 2001 and has since expanded to include six mainline entries:
- Devil May Cry (2001)
- Devil May Cry 2 (2003)
- Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening (2005)
- Devil May Cry 4 (2008)
- DmC: Devil May Cry (2013) – a reboot developed by Ninja Theory
- Devil May Cry 5 (2019)
In addition to the main entries, the franchise has seen multiple remasters, special editions, and collections, including Devil May Cry HD Collection and enhanced re-releases of Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, and Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition.
The series already has one anime adaptation by studio MADHOUSE, which premiered in June 2007. It has 12 episodes and focuses on Dante’s daily life as a demon hunter.
