Diablo Animated Series Announced for Netflix & Now in Development at Blizzard, Diablo V Set for Spring 2029

Blizzard Entertainment and Netflix are developing a new animated series set in the world of Diablo, officially bringing the popular action RPG franchise to television.

The project was announced during the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on September 12 as part of Blizzard’s plans for the future of the franchise. Blizzard confirmed that the series is currently in development with Netflix.

“We are thrilled to share that we are in development on a new animated series for Diablo with Netflix.”

The company’s official BlizzCon recap similarly states that the two companies are developing “a new animated series set in the world of Diablo,” adding that further information will be shared as production progresses.

The Diablo franchise is set primarily in Sanctuary, a world caught between the forces of the High Heavens and Burning Hells. The original game launched in 1996, making 2026 the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Blizzard says more than 130 million players worldwide have played games across the series.

The latest mainline entry, Diablo IV, launched in 2023 and has continued through expansions and seasonal updates. Blizzard also used BlizzCon to reveal another major step for the franchise, officially announcing Diablo V for Spring 2029.

According to Blizzard, Diablo V will take place in a Sanctuary where Diablo has already triumphed and the world’s heroes have been defeated. The company described the premise with the question of what players must become when the world has already fallen. Further details on its story, world and classes are being presented as part of the Diablo V: Forging the Future panel at BlizzCon.

For the animated series, Blizzard has so far only confirmed its partnership with Netflix and the setting to be within the Diablo universe, with additional details to be announced at a later date.
