The Eminence in Shadow anime will have 20 episodes that will air in two consecutive cours. The anime is slated to premiere on October 5 and consecutive cours mean that we will be hanging out with the Shadow Garden until the end of March. Studio Nexus is animating the series.
In addition to the information about the episode count, The Eminence of Shadow also announced a radio show that is set to broadcast starting on October 11. The anime is based on a light novel written by Daisuke Aizawa and illustrated by Touzai. Kazuya Nakanishi (character designer on Darwin’s Game) is directing the anime. Makoto Iino (Demon Lord, Retry) is doing character designs, while Kanichi Kato is in charge of series composition.
The Eminence the Shadow main cast includes Seichiro Yamashita as Cid Kageno/Shadow, Kana Hanazawa as Alexia Midgar, and Yoko Hikasa as Iris Midgar. OxT is singing the opening titled “Highest” while the ending theme song is titled “Darling in the Night” sung by the Seven Shades, who are the original members of the Shadow Garden. They are named after the Greek alphabet:
- Asami Seto as Alpha
- Inori Minase as Beta
- Fairouz Ai as Delta
- Hisako Kanemoto as Epsilon
- Reina Kondo as Eta
- Suzuko Mimori as Gamma
- Ayaka Asai as Zeta
The light novel started serialization in 2017 and also has manga and 4-koma adaptations going. Yen Press licensed the light novel and describes the plot as:
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!
