The popular Evangelion franchise is returning with a completely new anime series, with acclaimed game creator Yoko Taro writing the script and series composition at studios CloverWorks and Khara. This was announced on the final day of the 30-year anniversary festival commemorating the debut of the Evangelion series.

Joining Taro on the staff for the upcoming Evangelion anime series are series mainstay Kazuya Tsurumaki, who (among many roles) directed episodes of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion, co-directed the Rebuilds, in addition to directing titles like FLCL and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX; fellow director Toko Yatabe, who has directing experience on GQuuuuuuX and on an Evangelion short; and music composer Keiichi Okabe (Summer Time Rendering, Nier). Taro and Okabe’s relationship has spanned decades across Nier and Nier: Automata.

There’s currently no release date for the upcoming new Evangelion anime series. However, the first footage from the series will be released within the upcoming TV broadcast of Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time on February 23. TBS will broadcast the film, marking its terrestrial TV debut.
