Fate/Stay Night Remaster Arrives August 8; Hollow Ataraxia Sequel Announces English Release

The digital edition of visual novel classic Fate/stay night REMASTERED will launch on August 8th for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, publisher Aniplex and developer TYPE-MOON have announced. The title is an enhanced version of the 2004 visual novel which has since been adapted in multiple anime projects including the 2006 Studio Dean production, the 2014 anime Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works by ufotable, and the sequel trilogy of films, Heaven’s Feel, released between 2017 and 2020.

Additionally, a remaster of the direct sequel Fate/hollow ataraxia, has been announced for Switch and PC, with a confirmed English localization, although no release date was shared. Fate/hollow ataraxia was originally released in 2005 for PC, and was ported to PS Vita in 2014 for Japanese audiences.

Fate/stay night REMASTERED marks the first time the title has received an official English localization, and comes with HD graphics and animations remastered by series’ artist Takahashi Takeuchi. Despite this version being based on the PS Vita release Fate/stay night: Réalta Nua, Aniplex (a subsidiary of Sony), has not announced any plans for a PS4 or PS5 release.

Last month saw the global release of Tsukihime -A piece of blue glass moon-, a remake of the cult classic visual novel Tsukihime, originally released in December 2000 and serving as the world-building prequel to the wider universe of Fate media. We reviewed Tsukihime and called it “a masterclass in storytelling and visual design.”. The second part of the remake, Tsukihime -The other side of red garden- was revealed as a bonus CG, with a release date to be announced.

July also saw a ‘sneak peak’ trailer for Fate/EXTRA Record, the remake of the PlayStation Portable title Fate/EXTRA, which received an anime adaptation in the form of Fate/Extra Last Encore, animated by studio Shaft and released on Netflix. The remake was originally announced in 2022, with no platforms specified. You can watch the trailer below:
