Genshin Impact to Roll Back Neuvilette's Charged Attack Speed Changes With 1,600 Primogems as Apology

Genshin Impact released the 4.8 update earlier today and with it a “fix” for the Neuvilette’s Charged Attack speed, which would be affected by the DPI sensitivity settings on the mouse. Shortly after the update the community was in uproar, leading to not only a roll-back on the fix, but also an additional 1,600 Primogems (aka “apologems”) for the inconvenience. Neuvilette’s kit worked in this way ever since his release last year but the issue was not addressed until now, in spite of many content creators pointing it out.

The official explanation states that “the dev team noticed that under certain circumstances, players could achieve high-speed rotations with Neuvillette during his Charged Attack by adjusting the sensitivity or mouse DPI settings, which allowed them to inflict 360° damage. However, for Travelers using different devices, achieving similar results proved to be difficult. Moreover, the high camera rotation speed would result in visual blurry of game scenery and enemies, which significantly deviates from the usual gaming experience.” With this in mind, the fix was implemented with the goal of keeping Neuvilette’s damage numbers the same.

The official statement goes on to say that the team received numerous complaints and that the new gameplay experience for Neuvilette was indeed “clunky,” something that was not the intention so they have decided to roll-back the fix and issue the Primogems (in addition to the 100 players already recieved for today’s fix after the update). They are asking users to keep an eye on out on the future release schedule and issuance of compensation.

Neuvillete fix enraged not only the Western community, but also the Chinese one, with players claiming that they have been reporting HoYoverse for false advertising. Genshin Impact community has been in uproar for a while now following the reveal of Natlan character. The game was once again accused of whitewashing its characters. Similar to Sumeru, which draws inspiration from Middle East and Asian cultures, Natlan is also inspired by native Latin American cultures. The opinions on the topic have been divided, with many of the English voice cast joining the calls for more diversity. In addition to the whitewashing issue, the game is headed towards its 4th anniversary, which always comes with its own issues related to unsatisfactory anniversary rewards.

Generally, HoYoverse has ignored most of the complaints by its playerbase, especially those that come from the English-speaking world. The only time that they “buffed” a character post-release was Zhongli, whose kit was improved along with improvements to Geo resonance.
