While Asahigaoka and the Non Non Biyori girls may never again grace our screens, fans of Atto and the show’s production staff have reason to celebrate in 2025. P.A. Works recently announced that their upcoming original anime, Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi (Food for the Soul).
Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi Promises Comfort
Being one of the best-known iyashikei anime, Non Non Biyori is one of those titles that fans can’t get enough of. Sadly, there’s little hope for an additional season. But with Atto in charge of Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi’s character design, storyboard layout, and story concepts, it’s almost assured that a comfy anime is coming. Additional Non Non Biyori staff includes Shinya Kawatsura, who acted as an episode director and unit director for several NNB episodes, as one of two directors. Hiromi Mizutani will handle the upcoming show’s OST. Hiromi served as NNB’s composer.
Other staff include:
- Torhu Harumi (The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie) – Director.
- Hajime Mitsuda (Tabi-Hani) – Chief Animation Director
- Yoshihiro Hiki (Akiba Maid War) – Series Composition
- Takeshi Takadera (Oshi No Ko) – Sound Director
Kadokawa’s Alive+ website will publish the Quro (Asteroid in Love) drawn Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi manga later this year.
What’s It About?
At the time of publication, little is known about the show’s plot, but we do know it’s set to follow Mako Kawai, a college freshman with a love for the culinary arts. Based on the artwork and the “Cuteness + Deliciousness = The Ultimate Meal” text in the teaser, along with the 15-second trailer that highlights food more than the characters, it looks like this is a gourmet anime. The show might be similar to Gourmet Girl Graffiti or Today’s Menu for the Emiya Family, with its slice of life elements.
