Hololive Operators File Multiple Lawsuits Over Defamation and Copyright Infringement

COVER Corporation, which operates the VTuber agency hololive production, said on August 13 that it had filed multiple lawsuits against individuals engaging in copyright infringement and defamation of its talents.

In a report posted to its website, COVER cited two specific examples of its legal actions, one against an individual producing merchandise using unauthorized illustrations of talents, and another against an account holder who insulted hololive-affiliated talents on social media. The former’s case has been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for violations of the Copyright Act. The latter case reached a settlement, which included compensation, an apology, and an agreement not to do it again.

COVER Corp. then added:

In addition to the above, we have numerous ongoing legal proceedings regarding slander and other infringements of rights against our company and our affiliated talent. We will continue to take strict measures against infringements of rights, not only pursuing civil liability but also criminal liability.

We will continue to respond to slander and other infringements of rights so that all talents affiliated with ‘hololive production’ can continue their activities with peace of mind, and so that fans can enjoy our content with peace of mind. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

The lawsuits follow action earlier this year against individuals who COVER says made false claims regarding the inappropriate conduct of talents, false contract termination images, and a false bomb hoax story.
