J-Novel Club manga and light novel publisher announced the launch of a new Boys’ Love (BL) imprint at today’s MCM Comic Con in London. The imprint will feature both manga and light novel series with the first releases coming in early 2025 on both the J-Novel Club website and app. The first titles to come under this imprint will be revealed at a later date.

J-Novel Club subscribers will have access to works as soon as they are published while premium subscribers, will have access to parts of the books as soon as they are translated. eBooks will be offered on all major platforms for purchase.

The JNC Knight is J-Novel’s first BL venture, but not its first imprint as the company also has Club (shounen), Heart (shoujo), and Pulp (pulp). According to the JNC’s press release the BL genre featuring predominantly male romantic relationships has been expanding in recent years to include more gender-diverse and trans narratives.

J-Novel Club is known as the licensor of some of the biggest light novel and manga titles, such as My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, The Apothecary Diaries, Ascendance of a Bookworm, and more. The platform offers premium subscriptions: while free accounts can read the first parts of all series, higher tiers are required to unlock more content. Regular Membership includes exclusive access to newly translated content, access to forums, and a 5% discount for Coins (used to purchase ebooks from JNC). Premium Membership includes everything from Regular but comes with a 15% Coin discount and 699 Coins monthly. JNC states that most Premium light novels cost 699 coins, while most Premium manga cost 899 coins.
