The Apothecary Diaries Announces First Console Game for Early 2027, Original Story Supervised by Author

The Apothecary Diaries is getting its first console game, titled The False Imperial Brother, with a release planned for early 2027.

The mystery adventure will launch for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. A package illustration was also revealed alongside the announcement.

Original series author Natsu Hyuga is credited with the original concept for the game’s completely new story. The title is described as a mystery adventure centered on Maomao, with medicine and deduction once again playing a central role in uncovering the truth.

The official introduction is described:

“That medicine will eventually become poison.

A palace mystery where medicine and deduction reveal everything.

A new story in which ‘five mysteries’ and ‘five curses’ intertwine.

What is the truth behind the ‘false imperial brother’ that Maomao ultimately discovers?”

Natsu Hyuga writes the The Apothecary Diaries light novel, with illustrations by Toko Shino. The series is serialized by Shunfunotomo. The series has 2 manga adaptations, one written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage, and one written and illustrated by Minoji Kurata.

J-Novel Club is publishing the novel in English, while Squre Enix is publishing the manga. The story follows Maomao, a young apothecary who ends up getting sold to the emperor’s palace as a lowly servant. She’s not the type of character who can just stay obedient, so she ends up helping Jinshi, the handsome official at the palace.

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 TV anime is set to premiere on October 2, 2026, with a second cour planned for later in April 2027. There will also be an original movie between the two cours, and a live-action series was recently announced for 2028.
