Kingdom is based on a shounen manga by Yasuhisa Hara, which started serialization in Weekly Young Jump in 2006. It currently has 708 chapters and 62. Tokyo Ghoul author, Sui Ishida, served as Hara’s assistant. The anime adaptation by Pierrot and IKIF+ premiered in 2012. Pierrot animated the second season and was joined by St. Signpost on the third. The anime adaptation has had 106 episodes so far. Although it’s a long-running series the manga still hasn’t been licensed in English, but it is available in French.
The anime is known for its frequent changes in character designs and animation styles between seasons. Characters’ names also have two different versions – “original” Chinese and Japanese. Funimation is streaming the series and describes the plot as:
In a time plagued by war, Zheng and Xin have become comrades fighting together to attain their goals and change the history of China.
