An anime adaptation was also announced for 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku in 2018, though its status has been unknown following the arson attack on the studio in July 2019. This July, a special monument dedicated to the victims of the attack was unveiled in the Historical Park of Green Tea and Uji Town.

Following the tragedy, Kyoto Animation worked through difficult circumstances, and their first major release was the Violet Evergarden movie, which began its successful run in July 2020.

They released the Free! The Final Stroke movie over 2 parts; Part 1 in September 2021 and Part 2 in April 2022. A compilation of Tsurune’s first TV anime season was released in August 2022 as Tsurune: The Movie – The First Shot, featuring some newly-added scenes.

The studio’s first TV anime project after the attack was Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid S, which concluded almost exactly 3 years prior to the upcoming announcement, on September 23, 2021. In between Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and Sound! Euphonium, the studio also released Tsurune: The Linking Shot. The TV anime was a sequel to the first season/movie and it ran from January to March 2023.

KyoAni was founded in 1985 by Hideaki and Yoko Hatta, who are still acting as president and vice-president. Since then, the show has become known for animating many popular franchises. Excluding the ones already mentioned above, some of their well-known works include The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Clannad, K-On!, Nichijou, Hyouka, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, and A Silent Voice.
