Voice actor Kyousei Tsukui has revealed that he has now lost his voice after undergoing a tracheotomy procedure due to his current amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) condition. Kyousei used a digital voice software to communicate the news with fans in a YouTube video.
In the video, he revealed that he underwent the tracheotomy procedure on December 9, 2022. Aside from losing his voice, he also added that he lost the ability to move his own arms and legs.
It should be recalled that Kyousei publicly announced his health condition in 2019, stating back then that he had to use a cane to walk properly, and, in more severe cases, use a wheelchair to move around.
Some of the anime roles Kyousei Tsukui had include Michelo Chariot in Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Naoya Nishitani in Detective Conan, Daisuke in You’re Under Arrest, Baek Doo San in Tekken: The Motion Picture, Rinto Mikasa in Fantasia Doll, Johan Tsang in Black Blood Brothers, and Hakka in Zombie-Loan.
He also provided voice roles in several tokusatsu series such as Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, and Kamen Rider Den-O. He also provided Japanese dubbed voices to several episodes of Mutant Turtles: Superman Legend, Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends, and Inspector Gadget.
Kyousei Tsukui was also recognized at the 16th Seiyu Awards in 2022 for nabbing the “Best in Kids/Family Show Award“,
