Lupin the Third has announced a brand-new movie, tentatively titled LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE, for 2025. It will be the first 2D anime movie for the franchise in almost 30 years, with the previous being Lupin the Third: Dead Or Alive from 1996. You can watch the teaser trailer for the new movie below.
The new movie is directed by Takeshi Koike, who was first involved in the franchise as a character designer and animation director for Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine (2012). Since then, he directed three movies for the franchise, including Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen’s Gravestone (2014), Lupin the IIIrd: Goemon’s Blood Spray (2017), and Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko’s Lie (2019). The late Kazuhiko Kato (known by his pen name, Monkey Punch) is the original creator of Lupin III (also known as Lupin the Third, Lupin the 3rd, and Lupin the IIIrd). The series follows Lupin III, the grandson of gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. The original Lupin III manga began in Weekly Manga Action on August 10, 1967. Since then, it has received numerous adaptations, including TV anime, movies, live-action, specials, among others.
