Made in Abyss Season 2 Reveals Second Trailer, Theme Songs

Made in Abyss Season 2 unveiled a new trailer, ahead of the July premiere. The second season is titled The Golden City of the Scorching Sun and will be animated by Kinema Citrus.

The new Made in Abyss trailer also features the opening theme for season 2, titled “Katachi” (Shape) and performed by Riko Azuna. Myth & Roid will be doing the ending theme “Endless Embrace”.

The information was revealed during a special Kadokawa Anime stream, which was hosted by the main voice cast trio – Mitu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg), and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi). The original author, Akihito Tsukuhushi, also made an appearance via video call, while director Masayuki Kojima and producer Shinpei Yamashita showed up in the program live. Riko Azuna’s video message was also included.

New characters were introduced as well. They are Fapta (Misaki Kuno), Vueko (Yuka Terasaki), Wazcan (Hiroaki Hirota) and Belaf (Mitsuki Saiga).

Kinema Citrus is animating the sequel to the highly popular anime series, with the main staff returning. Masayuki Kojima is directing, with Hideyuki Kurata in charge of the series composition. Kazuchika Kise and Yuka Kuroda are doing character designs, while Kevin Penkin is returning to compose the music.

Made in Abyss is based on a manga by Akihito Tsukushi. The manga started serialization in 2012 in Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma. It currently has 10 volumes with over 60 chapters. Seven Seas is publishing the manga in English. The anime adaptation of the manga premiered in the Summer of 2017. The season was later condensed into 2 movies in 2019., while a sequel movie titled Made in Abyss Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul followed in 2020. A short 4-episode anime Made in Abyss: Marulk’s Daily Life also came out in 2020.
