Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an original anime project created by the Magica Quartet (Akiyuki Shinbo, Ume Aoki, Gen Urobuchi, and producer Atsuhiro Iwakami). The anime premiered in January 2011 and ran until April of the same year.

The series spawned multiple manga series (adaptations and spin-offs), a novel by Nitroplus, a dedicated magazine, and several video games. Two recap movies were released in October of 2012. They were followed by a third movie, titled Rebellion, in October 2013. The movie featured a new original story and was the prequel to Walpurgisnacht.

The Magia Record spin-off story got an anime adaptation by studio SHAFT and a mobile game. The anime ended in April 2022, while the Magia Record game will end its service on July 31, 2024. The Magia Exedra game was announced on April 22, 2024. The Japanese site also noted that Magia Record players will be able to transfer their play information through a link. Steam describes the upcoming title:
Characters from the hit anime series “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” come together! Featuring an all-new story setting and characters from the original ideas of Gekidan Inu Curry (Doroinu), experience the action alongside Magical Girl memories in this battle RPG!
