Maid Sama Creator Begins New Romantic Comedy Manga

Hiro Fujiwara, the creator of the popular Maid Sama manga series, has returned with a new romantic comedy manga series titled Be Selfish to a Cat (Neko ni Wagamama). The series debuted in the March issue of the LaLaDX shojo magazine, which was released on February 5, 2025.

In the same issue, Maid Sama got a special chapter set right before Misaki and Takumi started dating. Check out the full details on the new chapter and collaboration café here.

A New Romantic Comedy From the Maid Sama Author

The story of Neko ni Wagamama follows Rin, a high school girl who loves cats but suffers from a severe cat allergy. However, when she discovers an injured cat at a local shrine, she’s shocked to realize that she doesn’t have an allergic reaction to it. Overjoyed, she decides to take the cat home. However, in an unexpected twist, she wakes up the next morning to find that the cat has transformed into Tachibana, her cold and distant classmate!

Hiro Fujiwara’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

Fujiwara’s return to the manga scene comes as part of her 20th-anniversary celebration as a manga artist. Alongside the launch of Be Selfish to a Cat, she has also released a new Maid Sama chapter, giving fans a nostalgic look at Misaki and Takumi’s romance before they officially started dating.

Additionally, a Maid Sama collaboration café is set to open in Tokyo from April 3 to May 18, 2025, allowing visitors to experience food, drinks, and exclusive merchandise inspired by the series.

Hiro Fujiwara (born December 23, 1981) is a Japanese manga artist best known for Maid Sama, which was serialized in the LaLa shojo magazine from 2006 to 2013. The series’ popularity lead to a 26-episode anime adaptation by J.C. Staff in 2010. Before Maid Sama, Fujiwara debuted under the pen name Izumi Hiro and gained recognition after winning the Best Rookie award in the LaLa Mangaka Scout Course for her Kaeri Michi, Yuki no Netsu.
