Manga PLUS announced that it will be adding all Shonen Jump+ one-shots to its platform starting in September. The one-shots will be immediately translated into English and available to read for fans from all over the world for free during a 90-day period. After that, the works will become part of the lineup accessible through the MANGA Plus MAX Deluxe Plan. The first release of this kind is The Deep Sea of Words by MUGISUKE. The author and artist is known for works such as High School Runway and Good Night, Vampire. The one-shot is already available to read and the plot is described as:
Ever since childhood, Hiroki struggled to express his feelings. Only his beloved dog Karo truly understood him. But one day in high school, Karo passes away…
The authors still reserve the right to not have their works published in this manner. In these cases, the author’s wishes and the editorial department’s judgment will be taken into consideration. Shonen Jump+ previously released one-shots such as Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back.
MANGA Plus by Shueisha is an online manga platform and app that was launched in January 2019. It offers free and legal reading options for manga fans worldwide and publishes chapters for ongoing series on the same day as in Japan. It contains numerous Shueisha titles. In October of last year, it launched two subscription tiers: a Standard and a Deluxe Plan. Previously free-to-read titles were essentially paywalled: some chapters required subscription while others could be read for free, but only once. The most recent chapters remain free to read.
At last year’s Anime NYC, Anime Corner had the opportunity to interview Mr. Shuhei Hosono, now the Editor-in-Chief of the Manga PLUS app. Read what he had to say about the app’s future and new types of promoting manga.
