Netflix has announced a Minecraft animated series with a teaser video. Netflix and Mojang Studios are involved in the production, while more details are to be announced at a later date. They describe the announcement: This just happened: The best selling game of all time & the biggest streamer in the world are teaming up to bring you a brand NEW Minecraft Netflix animated series! News dropped at the Minecraft 15th year anniversary celebration. More updates to come.
Minecraft is indeed the best-selling video game in history, with over 300 million copies sold and nearly 140 million monthly active players as of 2023. The game Mojang Studios was released in 2011.
Other popular franchise recently getting animated adaptations at Netflix include Devil May Cry and Lara Croft, while they also have a Terminator anime in production. Most recently, they released an anime adaptation based on the popular Grimm fairy tales, titled Grimm: Variations.
