My Dress-Up Darling manga will officially end with the next chapter, completing a serialization of 7 years. Written and drawn by Shinichi Fukuda, the series has been serialized by Square Enix since January 2018. It will end in the next issue of Young Gangan with Chapter 115. The author made the announcement on X, stating:
“Today’s issue of Young Gangan features chapter 114 of My Dress-Up Darling.
The next chapter will be the final one. Thank you for your support!”
The anime adaptation began with a TV anime by CloverWorks in January 2022. The 12-episode series aired in Winter 2022, with the voice cast including:
- Hina Suguta as Marin Kitagawa
- Shouya Ishige as Wakana Gojo
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Sajuna Inui
- Hina Youmiyama as Shinju Inui
- Atsushi Ono as Kaoru Gojo
- Nowa Sugaya as Larissa Tago Takeda
- Misaki Kuno as Liz
- Sakura Tange as Mirai Tengeji
- Akira Sekine as Rune
- Yusuke Shirai as Kaname
The sequel anime was confirmed to premiere this year, with Keisuke Shinohara returning to direct along with the rest of the main staff. It will feature series composition by Yoriko Tomita, character designs by Yusuke Yamamoto and Kazumasa Ishida, and music by Takeshi Nakatsuka. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime.
In our Winter 2022 Anime Awards, My Dress-Up Darling was voted Best New Anime, while Marin and Gojo were voted Best Girl and Best Boy of the season, respectively. Hina Suguta also won Best Female Seiyuu for her role as Marin.
The story follows Wakana Gojo, a high school boy with the goal to become a kashirashi, a master craftspan of Japanese Hina dolls just like his grandfather. He meets Marin Kitagawa, one of the popular girls in schools, whose passion is cosplaying. Now Wakana crafts incredible costumes for Marin, as the two break through the cosplay season while slowly growing feelings towards each other.
The franchise also got a TV drama adaptation last year.
