My Hero Academia: You're Next Movie Grosses $6.2 Million, Biggest Opening Weekend in Franchise History

The My Hero Academia: You’re Next movie grossed over $6.2 million (895 million yen) during its opening weekend in Japan. The film placed first in the Japanese box office and sold over 605,800 tickets across 488 theaters, marking the most successful My Hero Academia movie debut to date.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next‘s $6.2 million opening is more than any of the previous three films of the franchise. It earned more than the first two movies combined ($5.17 million) during their opening weekends, and even topped My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission (2021), which earned $5.1 million during the first three days of its release.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next is the first movie in the franchise’s history that received a release in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema. TOHO is bringing the film to North America on October 11 with both Japanese subbed and English dubbed screenings.

Kenta Miyake returns to voice All Might along with also voicing Dark Might in the movie. The rest of the main cast reprised their original roles,w hile new cast members include Mamoru Miyano as Giulio Gandini, Meru Nukumi as Anna Scervino, Minako Kotobuki as Deborah Gorrini, Michitake Kikuchi as Simon Gorrini, Yuki Ono as Kamil Gorrini, and Yusuke Kobayashi as Paulo Gorrini.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next Movie Staff

Tensai Okamura (Cowboy Bebop: The Movie) is the director of the movie, while Yosuke Kuroda handled the screenplay. Kuroda also handled the script and series composition for every season of the My Hero Academia TV anime series. The two worked alongside series creator Kohei Horikoshi, who worked as a supervisor for the film. The rest of the main staff includes:

In a society where heroes and villains continuously battle in the name of peace and chaos, Deku, a U.A. High School student who aspires to be the best hero he can be, confronts the villain who imitates the hero he’s long admired. Can Deku and the rest of U.A. High Class 1-A protect the world by putting an end to Dark Might, the man claiming to be the new Symbol of Peace?

My Hero Academia Manga

The manga officially came to an end on August 4, 2024, with chapter 430. Volume 42 will be the final published volume for the series. The series began serialization in 2014 and ran for 10 years, becoming one of the most successful manga of all time with over 100 million copies in circulation. Fans can read the manga on the official Shonen Jump and Manga Plus apps

A global character poll was also announced for the franchise.
