My Hero Academia: You’re Next original movie has revealed a new “Who’s Next” trailer ahead of the new movie’s August 2 premiere in Japan. It was released only 15 hours after the special trailer that featured past movies.
The franchise is also launching a “I’M NEXT PROJECT,” encouraging fans to use specific hashtags and share their thoughts, favorite moments, and charm of My Hero Academia, as well as to take a picture with a giant All Might in Japan.
From July 29 to August 4, there will be a giant visual of All Might on the wall of PARCO East Exit at Ikebukuro Station. It will point to the fans and likely be in the recognizable pose the former No. 1 hero made when he told Deku it was his his turn next. There will be a special stage for the movie on August 2 which plans to feature Mamoru Miyano (voice of the movie original character Giulio), as well as on August 3 with guests to be announced later. More details on the project are available on the official website.
Studio BONES is animating the movie, with Tensai Okamura as the director. The movie was recently announced as the first of the franchise to get IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema releases on the opening day, along with new cast, another visual, and a trailer. It will premiere in North American theaters on October 11.
My Hero Academia anime is based on the manga series by Kohei Horikoshi, which has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Jump since 2014. The manga received its first anime adaptation by studio BONES in 2016. It received 6 more seasons in the following years, with the 7th season currently ongoing.
The franchise also has 3 movies released so far: Two Heroes (2018), Heroes: Rising (2019) and World Heroes’ Mission (2021). Crunchyroll is streaming the series, and they describe the story:
Izuku has dreamt of being a hero all his life—a lofty goal for anyone, but especially challenging for a kid with no superpowers. That’s right, in a world where eighty percent of the population has some kind of super-powered “quirk,” Izuku was unlucky enough to be born completely normal. But that’s not enough to stop him from enrolling in one of the world’s most prestigious hero academies.
The movie will premiere only 3 days before the manga by Kohei Horikoshi will release its final chapter on August 5.
